The Bitterroot River is a northward flowing 84-mile river running through the Bitterroot Valley, from where the East and West forks meet near Conner in southern Ravalli County to where it meets with the Clark Fork River near Missoula in Missoula County, in western Montana. The Clark Fork dumps into the Columbia River and ultimately, the Pacific Ocean. The Bitterroot River is a Blue Ribbon trout fishery with a healthy population of native westslope cutthroat trout and bull trout. It is the third most fly fished river in Montana behind the Madison and Big Horn Rivers.

FLY FISHING

There are several different ways to fly fish on the Bitterroot River. You can fish from the bank or wade on in and fish in the river. You can also fly fish floating down the river but you might want a guide to make this experience more enjoyable. The Bitterroot River has some of the finest hunting and fishing outfitters and guides you could ever want to meet, and we just happen to know their names and numbers. Just let us know ahead of time when you would like to go as these guys stay very booked up.
